BNVD Dovetail Shoe(AN PVS31 Style)

Overview

The dovetail shoe is the single load-bearing link between the goggle and the helmet mount. It wears. Replacing the shoe is a bench job you can do yourself. This is the V1 profile, for goggles that ride on helmet mounts using the AN/PVS-31 interface, and it ships with the screw and locating pins that belong with it. If the shoe on your goggle has been on there since the day you bought it, treat it as a wear item rather than waiting for it to loosen on your head.

How to Operate

1) Take the goggle off the helmet mount and rest it face down on a clean surface;

2) Back the screw out of the old shoe and lift the shoe and pins clear;

3) Set the new locating pins into the housing, then seat the new shoe over them;

4) Fit the new screw and run it down until it is firm - snug, not forced;

5) Slide the goggle into the mount and rock it by hand to confirm there is no play before you put the helmet on;

ARGUS PVS-31 style binocular goggles and the ARGUS PNVG-18 panoramic goggle, on helmet mounts using the AN/PVS-31 interface.

Why the ARGUS Part

Suspect this part first when a goggle will not stay put on the head. The shoe is the one part carrying the weight, so swapping it rules the shoe out before you start looking at the mount or the housing. And do not leave a shoe in service once it has play - it will not settle back down on its own.
