Overview
The diopter is the surface your eye actually looks through, and on a binocular it sits exactly where the unit meets your face. This assembly puts a replaceable lens in front of it. The frame carries that lens ahead of the diopter, the bumper ring around the outside takes the hit when the unit is driven back into your face or catches a helmet edge, and the seal behind it keeps dust from working in around the rim. It arrives assembled, so what you fit is one part rather than a stack of loose pieces. When something scratches it, this is what gets scratched. Replacing it is a parts swap, and the diopter face behind it is left as it was.
Key Features
1) Puts a replaceable lens in front of the diopter, so wear lands on a part you can swap;
2) Bumper ring around the rim takes the hit when the unit is driven into your face or catches a helmet edge;
3) Internal seal keeps dust from working in behind the protective lens;
4) Ships fully assembled, so lens, frame, bumper and seal go on as a single part;
5) Fits ARGUS BNVD-31 and PVS-31 pattern binocular housings;
What's in the Box
One protective lens
One lens frame
One eye-side bumper ring
One internal seal
Supplied factory-assembled as a single part, not as loose pieces
How to Operate
1) Remove the existing protective lens assembly from the eyepiece, using the protective lens frame head from the disassembly set if it is fitted tight;
2) Wipe the seating face clean so nothing is trapped behind the new seal;
3) Fit the new assembly squarely and seat it evenly;
4) Check the bumper ring sits flush all the way around with no gap;
5) Look through the unit and confirm the view is clear and the diopter still adjusts freely;
Compatibility
ARGUS BNVD-31 and PVS-31 pattern binocular night vision housings.
Why the ARGUS Part
It is doing its job when it looks bad. Marks on this assembly are marks that did not land on the diopter face behind it, so a scratched protector is a spent part rather than a damaged unit.
